Ms. Beth's Newsletter September 30th, 2016

Classroom News
This week we focused on colors.  We read Mouse Paint which explores color mixing, read Bear Sees Colors to search for colors, made color mixing paintings with watercolors, played a little mouse color house game, guessed which color bug was missing for “Bug in a Rug”, explored our wood pieces to make letters, played color and shape bingo, and found colors on our clothes and classroom.  In our small groups, we made color circle prints with red, yellow, and blue, read our Weekly Reader about germs and staying healthy, and sorted, counted, and graphed Skittles. Be sure to start your color and shape scavenger hunts to bridge the home/school connection to what we are learning.

Am Families:   We have a missing pair of glasses.  They are black with a strap.  Please check backpacks and email me if you have them.  Thank you!

This week we focused on Shapes.  We read Shapes All Around and Lots of Dots, rolled out playdough shapes, talked about shapes in the classroom, played Little Mouse in his shape house, and looked for shapes all around our classroom.  In our small groups we made shape collages with shape stickers to practice fine motor skills, cut a circle to practice cutting skills, and played shape bingo to practice shape recognition.  Vision and hearing screening went well.  If your child needs any further evaluation, you will be contacted by the screeners.

Classroom News
This week we focused on ourselves for All About Me week.  We learned what a skeleton is, parts of our body, drew our self-portraits, made an X-ray painting, measured how tall we are, and read Whoever You Are and Parts.  In our small groups we dotted our names, put together pattern block puzzles, and read our first Weekly Reader.  Be sure to review the magazine with your child.  At circle time, we graphed our eye color and hair color.  We have started Star of the Week.  If it is your child’s turn, he/she will have an extra folder in their backpack.  Please read the letter and complete the activities.  We send it home by alphabetical last names.  Have a great weekend!

We had a great first week of school!  We practiced our class rules, met Tucker Turtle, talked about emotions by reading The Way I Feel, met new friends, played in our classroom and playground, sang name songs, and read stories about starting school.  During our small group activities, we sorted bears by colors, practiced cutting and gluing, and made a page for our class book, I Am….  Next week we will focus on ourselves for All About Me week.  Thanks for all of your help to make our first week successful!
