Graduation 2017

Graduation Info

We are getting very excited for our programs on Wednesday and Thursday!  Thank you to all who have returned your RSVP.  It is looking like we will have a packed house so here are a few details to help ensure the evening goes smoothly.

·        The doors will not open until 5:40pm as we still have child care children and need time to set up.

·        Please have your child in the gathering room by 5:50pm.

·        Your child will be wearing a graduation cap so plan hairstyles accordingly.  We will collect the caps after the ceremony.

·        You may drop off your treat to us anytime during the week.

·        You need only bring in a dozen.

Thank you!

Classroom News
In the past two weeks, our focus has been on Plains and Rainforest animals.  We talked about the habitats they live in, the different kinds of animals, made a class book On Safari, created giraffes by painting spots with duplo blocks then cutting and gluing, read Honey, Honey, LionBill and Pete, and Giraffe Trouble, watched a video “All About Animals”, and sang zoo songs.  Last week in our small groups we made zebra stripe Z’s with paint and small brushes, practiced writing 4, 5, 6, and wrote our class book page.  This week in our small groups we made Jaguar J’s, practiced writing 7, 8, 9, and finished our 4K book. We also had a special guest, Dr. Mary Jo Lectner, come to our class and read us a story about bullying and being kind.  She also gave each of your children a book to take home to keep!  On Friday, we celebrated our animal study by watching the movie “Zootopia”, enjoying a trail mix snack, and relaxing with friends.

This week we focused on Art Appreciation.  We talked about what an artist is, discussed what artists use, looked at images of fine art, found objects in art, read Ish and The Dot to discuss all artists are different, painted a still life, drew with markers under the table to pretend to paint like Michelangelo, and created a pointillism (dot) painting.  In our small groups we practiced writing 1, 2, and 3, colored an R with rainbow colors and made a color square project, like the artist Josef Albers, to experiment with colors.

PM class trip to the School Forest

DC Everest School Forest May 11th

We had a great time at the school forest!  We were able to play in the new nature area which had a sand box, music area, art area, and discovery area.  We went on a nature walk and found animals, leaves, insects, saplings, ferns, flowers, and trees. We also got to play in the nature explore area which had a spider web, tree house, logs to walk on, natural block area, and a messy materials building area. Head on out to the school forest this summer for some great nature fun!

Thank you to all the chaperones!!!

This week we focused on Plants.  We watched a video about plant parts and read our Weekly Reader about plants, discussed what plants need to grow, how we get our food at the store, read The Carrot Seed, planted carrot, tomato, corn, and pea seeds, storytold “Jack and the Beanstalk", colored our own "Jacks" on sticks then planted our own bean seeds, explored soil, and planted flower seeds outside.  In our small groups we practiced writing X and Z, sorted and counted seeds, and made a life cycle about plants.
