Classroom News
This week we focused on Caterpillars and Butterflies.  We discussed the life cycle of a butterfly, learned the science words of pupa, chrysalis, cocoon, proboscis, and metamorphosis, read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and played the flannel story of the book, watched a video of the life cycle of a butterfly, made squish print butterflies, colored a flower so we could use our proboscis (a straw) to drink nectar (fruit punch), and played butterfly matching games.  In our small groups we decorated I with insects, practiced writing V, M, and N, and read our Weekly Reader about caterpillars.

Classroom News
This week we focused on Diversity.  We talked about being alike and different, read We Are All Alike, We Are All Different, looked at different ways people live, saw different types of homes, discussed different types of families, and used watercolors.  To reinforce our alike and different discussion, we read the book Bread, Bread, Bread and tried 4 different kinds of bread with 4 different dipping sauces.  We tried tortillas with guacamole, ciabatta with pizza sauce, naan with hummus, and croissant with apricot jelly.  Ask us what we liked!  In our small groups we made a handprint paper quilt piece, read our Weekly Reader, and practiced writing R, K, and A.  Our nursery rhyme was Jack and Jill and we acted it out to learn the vocabulary fetch, crown, tumble, and pail.

Classroom News
This week we focused on animals that live near the water.  We discussed what kinds of animals live near ponds, rivers, and lakes, read Over in the River, watched a video about the life cycle of a frog, sang “Ten Green and Speckled Frogs” to practice counting down from ten, scrubbed river rocks in our sensory table, made paper plate frogs, glued circles to make dragonflies, engineered beaver dams and tested our build, and went on a spring walk.  In our small groups we practiced the life cycle of a frog, practiced cutting and writing to make a book about pond animals, and decorated E with egg carton prints.  Our nursery rhyme was "Humpty Dumpty" and we talked about how an egg breaks and why it was not fixable.
