Ms. Beth's Newsletter November 18th, 2016

Classroom News
This week we focused on Families.  We read lots of books about families, surveyed who has siblings, discussed what a family looks like, played with the dollhouse, played in water for a sensory experience, shared family pictures, sang a song about why we love our family and then made a class book.  We also practiced writing tool grip and aim by coloring a point and scribble sheet.  In our small groups we painted a family tree with our hands, decorated a M with marshmallows, and watched a video about the Wampanoag tribe and then read our Weekly Reader.  Next week is a short week and our focus will be on giving thanks.  We are thankful for all of you wonderful families here at Key to Life 4K.  It is a pleasure to be your child’s teachers.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Classroom News
This week we focused on Pets.  We talked about what animals can be a pet, how we take care of pets, read Harry the Dirty Dog and Willie’s Wonderful Pet, painted hand print fishes and named them, practiced shaking hands with our right hand to a song, sang a pet song, added pets to our house area, drew on the easel with markers and paper, and drew "Mat Man".  In our small groups we colored C with crayons, practiced counting by “feeding” dogs, and made calico cats with black and orange tissue paper.  Next week we will be talking about our families.  Feel free to send any pictures of family photos, sibling photos, or pet photos so we can visualize what families look like.

Classroom News
This week we focused on Spiders and Bats.  We read The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Flying Bats, discussed traits of spiders such as 8 legs, 2 body parts, spins webs, eats insects, etc., learned what “nocturnal” is, discussed how bats live, made an itsy bitsy spider craft, drew spiders and bats for our journal page, and sang spider songs.  Our nursery rhyme was “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” with the vocabulary of spout, up/down, dry/wet and rain.  In our small groups, we sponge painted S’s, matched bats to caves to practice number and color recognition, and watched a video about spiders then made a hand print spider.  To start our week, we watched Room on the Broom and had a puffcorn treat.
