Ms. Beth's Newsletter October 26th, 2016

Classroom News
This week we continued our focus on Pumpkins and added some Fire Safety as well.  We carved a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, felt the pulp, seeds, skin, and flesh, tried roasted seeds (did I like them?), discussed fire safety (where is your safe place to meet?) read Firefighters A to Z, practiced stop, drop, and roll, played a what’s missing game, sang a fire truck song, and read Flashing Fire Engines.  In our small groups we watched a video about fire safety and read our Weekly Reader, decorated F’s with feathers, and made a shape fire truck.  We had some special visitors in our classroom to read us a book and give out some gifts.  The book and stuffed cow were donated by the United Way.  Enjoy the long weekend and maybe we will see each other at Trunk or Treat!

Classroom News
This week we focused on Pumpkins.  We read Pumpkin, Pumpkin, discussed the life cycle of a pumpkin, sang pumpkin songs, danced to the number rock and ABC rock, made paper jack-o-lanterns, drew a journal page, and talked about field trip safety.  In our small groups, we painted P’s with purple paint on pink paper, read our Weekly Reader about pumpkin science, and practiced cutting and sequencing with a pumpkin life cycle activity.  We also practiced picking up a crayon and holding it correctly.  Please practice this skill at home.  I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the chaperones that participated in our pumpkin patch field trip.  You all helped to make it a success and I believe everyone had a great time!
